If the network detection cannot be switched on, this may indicate an outdated driver or not activated necessary services. We get to the bottom of this topic and explain in this practical tip what you can do about this problem.
Network detection cannot be switched on - what to do?
- First make sure that you have installed the latest driver for your network card. To check this, you can start Windows Update or go to the manufacturer's website.
- There may also be a problem with the connection you selected. If you are using a LAN connection, try to establish a WLAN connection and vice versa.
- Various services must be started before you can switch on network detection. Go to "Control Panel"> "Administrative Tools"> "Services".
- Look for "DNS Client", "Function Search Resource Publishing", "SSDP Search" and "UPnP Device Host" in the list. These must be marked as "in progress".
- If this is not the case, you have to right-click on the services and start each one with a click on "Start".
- In some cases, special characters or umlauts in the network name cause this problem. Therefore, change the network name in the router menu so that there are no umlauts or special characters.
- Or it is because of the firewall: Some firewalls block the communication between router and PC. Turn this off for testing.
