Here's how to create new layers in Gimp. You can think of layers as slides that you can lay over other elements.
Create a new layer using the Gimp menu
To create a new layer, proceed as follows:
- If you don't have a window titled "Layers" in your Gimp workspace, press CTRL + L on your keyboard to open this view.
- In the layer window, right-click in the empty area and select the entry "New Layer" in the context menu.
- Width and height are already adjusted to the basic size of the picture, you can still change the values if necessary. Now select the fill type of the layer. With "transparency" the layer is completely transparent for now. Alternatively, you can fill the layer with a color. Click OK to create the layer. You can now change these without influencing others.
