Activate new hard drive - how it works
You can easily activate a new hard drive. We show which tool you can use to get the hard drive running quickly under Windows.
Activate a new hard drive under Windows
After you have installed the new hard drive and connected all the connections correctly, it is usually automatically recognized by Windows. How you proceed from here depends on whether the new hard disk is to be used as the primary hard disk or whether you have only installed an additional second hard disk:
- If you only want to use the new hard drive as additional storage space, all you have to do is format it and partition it as you wish.
- However, if you want to completely replace your old hard drive with a new one, you should mirror your existing hard drive before replacing it.
- With the right software - such as the free Clonezilla program - this can be done in just a few minutes.
