If you frequently create new folders, the quickest way is to use a key combination. While this is very simple under Windows 7, it takes a bit more skill to create a new folder using Windows XP using a shortcut.
The key combination under Windows 7: Quickly create new folders
If you use Windows 7 as the operating system, you can easily create new folders using the keyboard shortcut. This works on the desktop, for example, but also in all subfolders in Windows Explorer.
- Press and hold the Ctrl, Shift, and "N" keys simultaneously. Ctrl is usually found at the bottom left of the keyboard. The Shift / Shift key lies above it.
- Enter the name for the new folder you just created. By default, this is named "New Folder".
Windows XP and its key combination: There are also new folders
Under Windows XP there is no shortcut to create new folders. You can also do this by using a keyboard shortcut.
- Press the Alt key, "D", "N" and finally "O" one after the other. Unlike Windows 7, you don't have to press and hold these keys at the same time. You will usually find the Alt key to the left of the spacebar.
- Unlike the Windows 7 key combination, this procedure only works within Windows Explorer, since you activate the menu bar here with the Alt key. With "D" you navigate to "File", with "N" to "New" and "O" ultimately selects "Folder".
- Now you can enter the name for the newly created folder.
