Install a new processor - you have to consider that
In this practical tip, we show you what you need to consider when installing a new processor in your PC.
Before installing the processor
- When working with computer components, you should generally never do this on a carpet. The friction of the carpet with your socks can create a charge that is sufficient to make a processor inoperable.
- To be on the safe side, we recommend that you wear a grounding wrist strap when working with computer hardware. The bracelet is simply placed around the wrist and attached to the case with the crocodile clip.
Install the processor in the computer
- Turn the lever of the CPU socket on the mainboard and open the holding device.
- There is a small triangle in one corner on the CPU socket and the processor. Make sure they are aligned the same way. Furthermore, newer processors have distinctive notches that only allow the processor to be used in one direction.
- Carefully place the processor in the socket and make sure that it sits securely in the socket. Be careful not to force the processor into the socket. If the processor doesn't fit in the socket, it's probably misaligned.
- You can then close the lever again and remove the plastic cover. When you lock the lever, you need to apply some pressure.
Install the processor cooler
- Apply a drop of thermal grease to the center of the processor. If you install the cooler, the paste will spread evenly.
- Place the cooler at an angle to the processor and attach one side first. Then place the cooler straight on the processor and attach the other two fixed points.
- Connect the fan cable of the cooler to the "CPU FAN" or "FAN" connector on your mainboard.
