New Android smartphone: transfer data - how it works
Finally a new smartphone! This guide shows you how to transfer the data from the old to the new cell phone.
Transfer data from old to new Android smartphone
If you bought a new Android phone, you don't have to do without your data. You can copy your pictures, contacts and apps to the new device in just a few simple steps. But you should leave the SIM card in your old cell phone until you have transferred all the data and only then insert it into the new cell phone.
- Connect the old cell phone to your PC with a USB cable. Your computer automatically recognizes your smartphone as a mass storage device.
- You can then conveniently download all mobile phone pictures and videos to your PC via the workplace. To do this, copy the "DCIM" and "Photos" folders from your mobile phone memory.
- Tip: If you also connect the new smartphone to the PC, you can copy the pictures directly from the old to the new cell phone. Simply paste the data into the folder of the same name.
New smartphone: transfer contacts and SMS messages
You need special software so that you can continue to use your contacts in the smartphone's phone book and also saved SMS messages. For Android smartphones (e.g. from Samsung), this is the Kies software. This means that they can also transfer pictures and videos, although the method described above is usually faster.
- Start the transfer software that matches your cell phone and connect the cell phone to the PC via USB.
- In the software you will find a menu item "Synchronize contacts and messages on the PC". This saves all contacts, phone numbers and messages on the PC.
- Connect the new smartphone and synchronize the contacts and messages back to the mobile phone.
- You can find detailed instructions for Samsung Kies in another article.
Transfer apps with data, WhatsApp, pictures, contacts and messages
If you also want to transfer the apps you love and all their data to the new smartphone, there is a quick and elegant solution. For Android devices, this is the free Helium app. In addition to your contacts, you can also copy your apps to the new mobile phone.
- To do this, install the helium software on your PC and download the helium app to your old smartphone. Connect the cell phone to the PC with a USB cable and start both the PC program and the app.
- Then you can select the data, contacts and apps you want to back up in the app. You can select the internal storage, the external SD card and, in the full version, a cloud as the backup location.
- Then carry out the same steps again with your new smartphone: Install the app and connect your device to the PC software. Then select "Restore" from an SD card or the cloud in the app.
- Backing up the data and apps works more elegantly via "PC download", which you can activate in the app, while the smartphone is connected to the PC via USB cable. Now you can select what and which apps should be backed up on the PC in the web browser using the specified IP address. With the new smartphone, the recovery works in the same way.
We will show you how to set up your new smartphone perfectly afterwards in a special article. Tip: We also explained in an article how you can use Whatsapp on multiple devices.
