Nextbit Robin: Release and all information about the Kickstarter smartphone
With the Nextbit Robin, a new smartphone is coming onto the market that should work closely with the cloud. We'll tell you what makes Nextbit Robin so special and when it will appear in Germany.
Smartphone release: when will the Nextbit Robin come?
- The Nextbit Robin was created from a Kickstarter campaign by former Android developers and a designer from HTC. Around $ 1.3 million was raised within 30 days.
- The delivery of the first smartphones was originally planned for January 2016. Now the date shifts to February 16. All other pre-orders should receive the smartphone at the end of February.
- You can currently only order the smartphone on the Nextbit website. The smartphone costs $ 399, including $ 95 for shipping to Germany - around 450 euros. Be aware of fees when ordering in the United States.
Nextbit Robin: This is how the cloud smartphone works
- The Nextbit Robin comes in a rather futuristic design and runs on Android. The integrated storage is only 32 gigabytes, but a cloud storage with a volume of 100 GB is always reserved for this.
- Offline and online storage should work closely together on the Nextbit Robin. Apps that are used rarely or not at all end up in the cloud after a short time. This means that only what is really needed is stored on the internal memory.
- If a rarely used app is needed, it is loaded directly from the cloud. Depending on the connection, however, this may take a while. The switch between offline and online storage is only carried out when the smartphone is charged and connected to the WLAN.
Nextbit Robin: The equipment of the cloud smartphone
- In the Nextbit Robin, a Snapdragon 808 processor that accesses 3 GB of RAM ensures decent performance. The IPS display is 5.2 inches in size and has a resolution of 1, 920 x 1, 080 pixels. The fingerprint sensor can be used to unlock it.
- The battery capacity of 2, 680 mAh is quite average, but thanks to the quick charge function, this is completely sufficient. The front camera resolves with 5 megapixels, the rear camera takes sharp photos with 13 megapixels.
- A USB 3.0 Type C is on board for charging. WLAN ac, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and LTE are also included. The smartphone is available in a light mint and a dark gray midnight.
