Nexus 5X vs Nexus 5: the innovations of the Google smartphone
With the Nexus 5X, Google has extensively updated its popular smartphone series. We had the new flagship compete against the previous top dog, the Nexus 5, in a VS comparison. We show you what the innovations are in this practical tip.
Nexus 5X vs Nexus 5: the external innovations
The first differences between the new Nexus 5X and the Nexus 5 are already apparent:
- Housing: With the housing, Google has not been influenced by the aluminum trend of other manufacturers. As with the Nexus 5, the successor also uses plastic cladding. In addition to two gray levels, the smartphone will also be available with a blue housing.
- Display: The Nexus series has grown over time. While Google still used a 4.95-inch IPS LCD display with Full HD resolution (1, 920 x 1, 080 pixels) for the Nexus 5, it is now a whopping 5.2-inch. The resolution remains at Full HD, but the display technology has been updated to the new P-OLED technology.
- Other: There is a small metal ring on the back of the Nexus 5X that acts as a fingerprint scanner (Nexus Impact).
Nexus 5X vs. Nexus 5: the technical differences
A lot has happened in the installed hardware in the two years. The new Nexus 5X outperforms its predecessor in almost every area.
- Performance: A Snapdragon 800 processor with four cores works in the Nexus 5, which cuts a great figure together with Android 5.0. Even two years after the release, complex apps and games are no problem for the Google smartphone. Nevertheless, there is still a lot to get out of it: The Nexus 5X has a six-core Snapdragon 808 processor with 1.8 GHz and 64-bit architecture. It already ensures outstanding performance in the LG G4.
- Camera: The manufacturer also bases the camera on the LG G4. A Sony camera with 12.3 megapixels, an aperture of f / 2.0 and a laser auto focus is used, which focuses images at lightning speed. Record videos in 4K resolution. The Nexus 5 had 8 megapixels with no real additional features. This now corresponds to the successor's front camera, which also has a resolution of 8 megapixels and enables full HD videos.
- Battery: With the Nexus 5X, the battery grows from 2, 300 mAh to 2, 700 mAh. The hardware should also be significantly more energy efficient than the predecessor. Therefore, you can probably expect much longer terms.
- Other: There will be no SD card slot on the Nexus 5X either. So you have to cope with the internal storage space. After all, an LTE module, strong front speakers and a USB-C connection for faster charging complete the equipment list.
Nexus 5 goodbye: is it worth switching to the Nexus 5X?
- The Nexus 5X scores above all with its larger display, the significantly better equipment and the more powerful battery. This means that the Google smartphone is up to date again and is aimed primarily at users who want the best of the best.
- However, the price could deter some interested parties: The manufacturer demands 479 euros for the 16 GB version, and 529 euros for the 32 GB version. An exact release date is not yet known. In the store you can currently only find a note that the Nexus 5X should be available soon.
- If you don't want the latest model, you can save a lot of money with the Nexus 5: for the 16 GB version, you only pay around 230 euros here and for the larger version 330 euros.
