Nexus 7: expand memory - how it works
The Google Nexus 7 is an extremely popular Android tablet. However, the memory of the device cannot be expanded normally, since no interface for micro SD cards is installed. We show two ways that you can still expand the memory of the device.
Connect the USB stick to the Google Nexus 7
In fact, it is possible to connect a standard USB stick to the tablet. All you need is a so-called OTG cable, a special app and root access on your Nexus 7. We will explain the exact procedure in our associated video practical tip.
- If you haven't rooted your tab yet, this is the first step. It will be particularly easy if you follow our workshop with a photo gallery. If the term "root" is still completely foreign to you, you can get a first overview in this practical tip.
- You can get the OTG cable for less than 3 euros from well-known online retailers such as Amazon or Ebay.
- You can find the Android apps "StickMount" and "ES File Explorer" on our portal "Beste-apps".
Alternative: use cloud storage services
If you have almost always connected your Nexus tablet to a Wi-Fi network, it also makes sense to use cloud storage. Your files are stored on the cloud provider's servers and can be called up online if required. The storage space of the mobile device remains unaffected.
- The currently best known services are "Dropbox" and "Google Drive". These offer a certain basic amount of free storage space, which can be expanded considerably against payment.
