Nexus: battery does not charge - it may be because of that
This practical tip shows you what you can do if the battery on your Nexus device does not charge.
Nexus device no longer charges - this can be the cause
With smartphones such as the Nexus 6 or Nexus 5, it can happen that the battery can no longer be charged. There can be different reasons:
- The USB socket for the charging cable may have become damp. Here you have to replace the circuit board so that the charging process works again. Also check whether there is any lint or other parts in the socket that prevent a connection. If in doubt, you can carefully clean the USB socket with compressed air.
- In any case, check the charging cable. If this has a cable break or another defect, no current arrives in the Nexus.
- The plug on the charging cable can also be bent due to carelessness and, in the worst case, no longer fits into the USB socket. Do not try to connect the plug with force, otherwise you may damage the USB socket.
- It may also be a loose connection. You can check whether this is the case by connecting your Nexus to the PC or connecting the charging cable and the connection is simply disconnected and re-established after a short time.
- Most Nexus devices can also be charged via NFC. With the help of a wireless charger and the built-in NFC chip, the battery is charged wirelessly. If the USB socket is damaged, you can also charge your Nexus in this way. If that doesn't work and the red lamp flashes, this article shows what to do.
Nexus devices: battery replacement as a last resort
In some cases, it can also be a serial error and the problem arises sooner or later. Then usually only a battery change helps.
- Check whether your device is still under warranty and return it to the manufacturer for repair.
- It is possible to change the battery yourself, but it requires tact and professional guidance. After opening the device, you will also lose the guarantee and in the worst case may damage other components. In contrast to other devices such as Samsung smartphones, the battery in Nexus devices is permanently installed and cannot be replaced simply by removing the rear cover.
This guide shows you how to replace the battery for the Nexus 5, for example.
