No matter whether to save electricity or for security reasons - if you do not use NFC on your smartphone, you can simply switch it off. We show how this works for most smartphones.
Android: Deactivate NFC in the settings
Depending on the user interface, the menu items can be named differently. The basic position of the NFC settings are the same for every Android smartphone:
- Open the system settings via the app icon with the gray gear.
- Go to "Advanced" or "More" in the "Wireless and networks" category.
- Here you will find a slider with which you can easily switch NFC on and off.
- You will also find the Android Beam option here, which allows you to exchange app content between smartphones. For example, you have the option of prohibiting mutual data exchange without completely switching off NFC.
iOS: NFC cannot be switched off separately
If you are using an iPad or iPhone, you cannot easily switch off the NFC function. There is no separate menu item like on Android phones for this.
- From Apple's perspective, it is simply not necessary to switch off the NFC chip. The device is already protected against unauthorized access from outside.
- If you still want to deactivate Near Feald Communication on your iOS device, you have to go to Airplane mode. This cuts all radio connections of the device at one go.
- To activate the flight mode, simply go to the settings and tap on the button at the top behind "flight mode".
