NFC ring - what is it?
The NFC ring: unlock doors, unlock smartphones and exchange contact data - all of this should be possible with an NFC ring on your finger. In this guide you can read what is hidden behind the all-purpose wireless opener and what dangers it entails.
NFC ring - this technology behind it
- NFC (Near Field Communication) is a technology that enables you to exchange data wirelessly.
- To do this, hold two NFC-compatible devices a few centimeters apart. Then they exchange information with each other.
- Such information can be, for example, commands, links, contact details or photos.
Unlock the smartphone with the NFC ring on your finger
With the NFC ring you have a universal key, so to speak. So you can open your front door, just like unlock your smartphone with the ring.
- The NFC ring has two sides. A "public" and a "private" page.
- With the "public" page you can exchange digital business cards, for example. You wear this side on the outside of your finger.
- The "private" side of the NFC ring contains information that you can use to unlock your smartphone, for example. You wear this on the inside of your finger.
- You can pre-order the NFC ring on the manufacturer's website. You can find a video at Kickstarter.
Dangers of the NFC ring - bug-proof?
- The manufacturer promises that the ring is bug-proof. However, a recipient placed close to the ring carrier could intercept confidential information.
- An NFC reader could also simply be hidden in a door handle. If you touch it, the information on the "private" page is transferred to the door handle.
- If you lose the ring, it can sometimes be uncomfortable. Because the perpetrator has your universal key. With the "public" side he can quickly find out where you live and then only needs to hold the "private" side to your door, notebook or smartphone.
