Unidentified network - what to do?
In this practical tip, we will explain how you can proceed if you are struggling with the "Unidentified network" problem.
Unidentified network - simple tips to solve the problem
When connecting via a LAN cable, make sure the router is properly connected to the computer.
- A restart of the router or the computer often helps.
Troubleshoot the DHCP server
If the problem persists, the problem may be with the DHCP server. This is responsible for assigning IP addresses to the devices in the home network.
- Press [Windows] + [R] at the same time and enter "CMD". When you get to the command prompt, you can use "ipconfig / release" and "ipconfig / renew" to assign a new IP to the computer.
- The DHCP server may not be switched on. Log in to the router menu and check whether the server is running. With the FRITZ! Box, the "Enable DHCP server" check box for "Home network"> "Home network overview" for "IPv4 addresses".
Fix problems on the PC
But maybe the error is also on your PC.
- First go to Control Panel, click on "Network and Internet"> "Network Connections" and finally select "Scan Network". Windows is now looking for network problems. Use "Perform these repairs as administrator" to try to fix the problem.
- If this also fails, select your connection and click on "Change the settings of this connection". Double click here on "Internet Protocol, Version 4 (TCP / IPv4)" and make sure that the IP and DNS addresses are obtained automatically.
