Nintendo Switch: Transfer stored data - how it works
If you want to switch to another Nintendo Switch for a short or long period of time, you can simply transfer your saved data. We'll show you how to do it step by step.
Nintendo Switch: Requirements for the transfer of stored data
You can transfer any data you want from one console to the other. You have the choice yourself which data of which user you transfer and which remain on the old console. Data that you do not transfer will then be deleted on the old console.
- Both consoles require at least firmware version 4.0.0 and an active connection to the Internet.
- Your Nintendo Account may only be linked to one user on the old console. Do not sign in to the new console yet.
- To make room for another user on the new console, there must not be more than seven users.
Instructions: Transfer data from the old to the new Nintendo Switch
- Take the old Nintendo Switch at hand and open the "System Preferences".
- In the "User" category you will find the "Transfer user and storage data" option. Confirm two times with "Next" and select the option "Output console".
- Complete the process with "Continue".
- Repeat these steps now on the new console, but select the "target console" instead of "source console".
- You can log in to your Nintendo account with your email address or Nintendo ID via "Register".
- Confirm all notices here and complete the process.
- You can then start the transfer on the old console.
- Depending on the amount of data, this process takes several minutes. After that, the data from the old console disappeared and was set up on the new console.
