Nintendo Switch: Create a user ID - how it works
If you have bought a Nintendo Switch, you need a so-called user ID to log in. In this practical tip, we will show you how to create your own user ID.
Nintendo Switch User ID: What do you need it for?
- So far, you could manage your profile on the Nintendo consoles using the Nintendo Network ID (NNID). The so-called user ID has now been introduced for the new Nintendo Switch.
- All relevant data is stored online via the user ID. This includes not only your account information, but also settings and scores.
- Note: If you also use a Wii U or a Nintendo 3DS, you will still need an old NNID. It is currently not clear whether and when the user ID will also be introduced on older devices.
Nintendo Switch: All important information about the user ID
- The Nintendo Switch user ID must be at least 6 characters long. Only numbers and letters are allowed. You can only write letters in lower case.
- You have the option to change your user ID as often as you like. A change is possible at any time in the settings. Of course, it is not possible to assign a user ID twice.
Instructions: Create a user ID for the Nintendo Switch
- Open the following Nintendo website and log in to your account.
- If you do not yet have an account, you can create an NNID here or use the login via Facebook, Google or Twitter.

- Click on the "Change" button on the right and enter your desired user ID.
- You may receive an email from Nintendo with a confirmation code, which you must enter on the website.
