The Nintendo Switch is the successor to the Wii U. However, since the two consoles appeal to different target groups, a comparison is worthwhile. Read more about this in our practical tip.
Wii U or Nintendo Switch - these are the differences
When comparing, it quickly becomes apparent that the two Nintendo consoles have many differences:
- For example, the Wii U is larger than the Switch. It is designed as a pure home console, which is connected to the television and controlled with a controller.
- In contrast to the Nintendo Switch, the controller of the Wii U is equipped with a touchpad, which makes the game experience very different.
- With the Wii U, on the other hand, you can only play on the gamepad controller if someone else just needs the TV. The range is five meters.
- The Switch is a console that you can use both on the TV and on the go. The controllers can be removed from the side so that the display can be placed on a table, for example.
- So with the Nintendo Switch you have a picture detached from the controllers and you don't always have to look down at the controller. You can also purchase separate controllers for the console.
- The image of the switch is transferred to the television through the docking station. Here, the display is simply more successful than with the Wii U.
Technical performance of the Nintendo consoles compared
Because the Switch is the successor to the Wii U, its technical properties are slightly better.
- The Switch games usually have a higher resolution and a more stable frame rate than the Wii U.
- This is due to the new processor, which has been slightly modified for the switch. The performance is impressive for the compact device.
- The Wii U has an IBM processor and an AMD graphics card. As early as 2012, these were no longer considered particularly powerful.
- That's why there have never been many third-party games for the Wii U, while many games from manufacturers other than Nintendo have already been announced for the Switch.
- In fairness, however, it must be mentioned that there are still many good Nintendo games like Party Games and Super Mario episodes plus many games from Japanese manufacturers for the Wii U.
