After a long wait, users of the Nintendo Switch can finally access the video platform from YouTube. We'll show you how it's done.
Watch YouTube videos on the Nintendo Switch
It was only over a year after the release of the Nintendo Switch that Nintendo released the YouTube app for the handy console. So far, users have had to make a detour via the integrated but hidden browser.
- When and whether YouTube will be on the Nintendo Switch has long been unclear. You can now download the app free of charge from the Nintendo eShop.
- To do this, open the shop in the main menu of the Switch or download the app online from Nintendo eShop. The app is then automatically installed on the switch.
- You need around 100 MB of free space for the download. However, you should have a little more memory left to watch videos. However, a download function that is available for YouTube Premium members is not supported on the Switch.
Step 1: Prepare the PC for using YouTube videos on the switch
Note: These instructions are no longer necessary. Before Nintendo provided the YouTube app, you had to laboriously activate the integrated browser and watch the YouTube videos there.
- Download the free tool Fiddler. Enter any email address for the download.
- Start Fiddler, click on "Tools" above and select the "Fiddler Options" option.
- Click on "Connections", activate the item "Allow remote computers to connect" and deactivate the item "Act as system proxy on startup".
- Close the window with "OK". Now Fiddler restarts.
- Switch to the desktop and right-click on a vacant space.
- Under "New" select the text document and open it.
- Copy the following code into the text document and close the file.
- Change the name of the file to "switch_browser.farx". If the file extension remains at ".txt", we will show you how you can change the file extension.
- Switch back to Fiddler, select the "AutoResponder" above and click on "Import".
- Select the file "switch_browser.farx" from your desktop and open the file.
- Now activate the "Enable rules" and "Unmatched requests passthrough" options in the "Autoresponder" area.
Step 2: watch videos on the console
- Open the system settings and select the category "Internet".
- In the "Internet settings" tap on your WLAN and select the option "Change settings".
- In the "Proxy Settings" set the proxy to "On".
- Enter the IP address of your computer here and use 8888 as the port.
- Save the entries and then tap on "Connect to this network".
- Tap "Next" when the message "Registration is required to use this network".
- You will now be taken to the hidden browser. From here you can access the YouTube website and watch videos.
