Nokia Lumia: the best battery tips
With the right settings, you can significantly improve the battery life of your Nokia Lumia. We give you the best tips so that the battery lasts longer.
Battery tip 1: Disable certain connections on Nokia Lumia
Nowadays it is no longer enough to just set the brightness of the display to "low". Most smartphones have integrated Bluetooth, GPS location or NFC. Even if you don't use these connections and functions, they still cost a lot of energy. So deactivate all features that you do not use:
- To disable the connections, open the settings on your Nokia Lumia.
- Open the menu item "Bluetooth" and set the switch to "Off" by flipping it.
- To deactivate the location, scroll down further in the settings and open the menu item "Location". You flip the switch here too.
- Next, scroll down to "NFC" in the settings. Set both switches to "Off". The activated NFC function in particular quickly sucks the battery empty in the background.
Battery tip 2: Set the power saving mode correctly on the Nokia Lumia
On the Nokia Lumia you will find the "Power saving mode" app. This system tool is pre-installed and you can make some settings. We'll tell you what you should choose:
- Open the power saving mode app on your Lumia. You will automatically receive an overview of the use of your smartphone.
- This is how you see how intensively you use an app. You can also see whether the app is working in the background. The default for most apps is that they can update themselves in the background. This is practical, but it is at the expense of the battery.
- It does not make sense to activate the background update for every app. These include, for example, photo, game or brochure apps.
- If an app is constantly updated in the background, you will find the addition "Allowed" under the app name. If you don't want the tool to be active in the background, tap the app and set the switch to "Off".
- If you have deactivated all unwanted apps and games here, swipe right into the "Settings".
- You can then set the power saving mode here. Under "Extend battery life" it is best to select the option "If the battery level drops below 20%". As soon as the battery power drops below 20%, for example, the brightness of the display is adjusted downwards and the push notifications are sent less frequently. So your smartphone stays alive longer.

Of course, you can also improve battery life with general power saving options:
- If you do not use your smartphone for some time, you can activate the airplane mode. This deactivates all connections and saves so much energy. The corresponding option can be found in the settings.
- Set the "Low" option in the "Brightness" settings. This display brightness is usually sufficient and protects the battery.
- For email accounts you should also set the synchronization to "Manual". For example, your smartphone only retrieves mails when you open the account yourself. If you do not want to deactivate the automatic synchronization, however, the following applies: the less you synchronize, the less you use the battery.
