Repair notebook key - a guide
If a key on your notebook no longer works, you can repair it in many cases. We show you how to do this.
Repair notebook key: Instructions
A defective key can have many causes. In the best case, just a lot of dust has collected under the button that can be easily removed. If fluid is the cause, with a little luck you can also fix this problem yourself:
- Removal: Take a small slotted screwdriver, tweezers, a knife, or a nail arrow. Place one of these items on the left and another on the right of the button. Make sure that the object is not too far below the button, only the outer edge is raised. Now carefully pull both objects upwards so that the button releases.
- Cleaning: If the button is removed, you can clean the underside with a household or microfiber cloth. Where the button rests, you will find a small rubber button in the middle. This should be cleaned very carefully.
- Installation: Then put the button back in its place, then press the button from top to bottom with a slight pressure until it clicks into place again. If the problem has not yet been solved, follow the instructions in the next paragraph.
Special cleaning and repair
If liquid has spilled over the keyboard, it is difficult to repair the key. However, more specialized cleaning can also help:
- Cleaning: Remove the button again and clean the button with water. Household alcohol from the pharmacy works even better. Use a cotton swab and very little liquid. Also lift the little rocker that is around the rubber button and clean the area.
- Spare parts: If the button or one of the plastic / rubber components is damaged, you can get cheap spare parts on Ebay. The interchangeable parts include the button itself, as well as the round and square frame.
- Replacement: If more than one key is damaged, the entire keyboard can also be replaced.
- Manufacturer: If the button remains defective, usually only the manufacturer can repair it. However, there is no guarantee case for liquid damage.
