Emergency call without a network - how it works
You can make an emergency call all over Europe via number 112. In this article, we explain how this works even without a cellular network.
No network: This is how you make a call even without an emergency call
If you book a mobile phone tariff in Germany, you are bound to the network of a particular operator. There are currently three different network operators: Telekom, Vodafone and O2.
- If you have no reception when you want to make the emergency call, you can still try to dial 112. The cell phone then automatically dials into the network that is strongest on site. Please note that this is usually not possible with police emergency number 110!
- If none of the three networks is available, you cannot make an emergency call. The cell phone can then not communicate to the outside.
- Such dead spots are very rare in Germany and other European countries. One of the networks is almost always accessible.
- If it should happen that you can not make an emergency call, you should walk a bit with your cell phone and then try again. You can usually get reception again within a few hundred meters.
- Important: In the past it was also possible to make emergency calls without a SIM card in the cell phone. However, this led to many abuses and is no longer possible today. So you need a SIM card in any case.
