Reinstall NVidia driver - how it works
In case of problems with NVidia graphics cards, reinstalling the drivers can sometimes help. In this practical tip, we explain how you have to proceed and what you need to consider.
NVidia: Reinstall driver
Gone are the days of having to remove currently installed drivers before you replace them. In most cases it is sufficient to simply install the new drivers over the existing ones:
- You can find the latest drivers for your NVidia graphics card for 32-bit and 64-bit systems for free download. Make sure you select the correct drivers for your graphics card model and operating system.
- Then start the downloaded setup and follow the installation wizard.
NVidia: Uninstall old drivers in case of serious problems
If you continue to have problems with your NVidia graphics card, it may be necessary to completely remove the existing drivers first. To do this, simply follow these instructions:
- Download the "Display Driver Uninstaller" software and unzip it to any directory on your hard drive. Installation is not necessary.
- The developer of the Display Driver Uninstaller recommends using it in Windows Safe Mode. You can either initiate a restart in safe mode via the software or follow the instructions in this practical tip.
- As soon as Windows has started up in safe mode, run the "Display Driver Uninstaller.exe".
- In the "Select Graphic Driver" area, select "NVIDIA". Now click on the "Clean and restart" button to remove the existing drivers. As soon as the process is complete, the system restarts.
