o2-Surfstick on Mac - problems with Yosemite
o2 advertises and sells ZTE brand surfsticks with the model names MF667 and LTE MF823.
- According to the technical data, these are compatible with the Mac operating system, but often not with the latest versions.
- Many customers have had problems with the Surfstick and the associated tariff in the past few months because it did not work under Mac OS X Yosemite.
- There are now suitable driver updates for this problem. In the next section, you will find out what else you need to watch out for.
Use o2 surfstick under Yosemite - this is how you proceed
Connect your o2 surf stick to your Mac.
- The surf stick now appears on the right side of your desktop. Click on it. Select "O2SURF" here and then click on the "o2 Surfstick.mpkg" file. Follow the installation instructions.
- After the installation, two entries have been added to your "Programs" in the "Finder", namely "o2 Surfstick" and "Uninstall o2 Surfstick". If you click on "o2 Surfstick", you will probably be redirected to "navigationshilfe.t-online.de" in the Safari browser and cannot connect to o2.
- Go to the following page and scroll down. In the "5. Manufacturer Service / Driver Update" area, click on the "Driver Update for Mac OS X 10.10" link. You will now be forwarded to the ZTE website and click on the "Product information" tab on the product page of the stick.
- At this point, click on "MF667 Patch for MAC 10.10" and download the patch. Run the driver patch after the download. Follow the installation instructions here too.
- The following is also important: If you want to surf with your ZTE surfstick and tariff, turn off the WLAN on your Mac. To do this, click on the WLAN symbol in the top menu bar on the right and select "Deactivate WLAN".
- If you now click on "o2 Surfstick" under "Programs" in the Finder, you will be successfully redirected to "o2surf.stick" and all you have to do is enter your SIM PIN to start an Internet connection.
Future Apple operating system versions - this is how you proceed
When Apple releases new OS-X versions of its operating system, there is always the risk that the stick will not be compatible again.
- So if you are dependent on the o2 surf stick, you should only install future operating system updates under Apple on request from o2.
- The o2 customer service will then give you information on whether there are compatibility problems and how long you have to wait for driver updates.
