Objective Extender - what is it?
Extender is a term used by Canon for lens converters. It increases the focal length of an objective.
Lens Extender - What For?
A lens or teleconverter increases the focal length of a lens attached to the camera. To do this, the extender is screwed between the camera and the actual lens. The main advantages and disadvantages of converters are:
- Due to the increased focal length, distant objects can be displayed larger. A teleconverter allows you to zoom closer to an object.
- Since a converter is much smaller and lighter than another lens, it is very practical, especially on the go. This saves you several heavy lenses, since you can use each lens with and without a converter and therefore have two different focal lengths.
- However, light is lost due to the interposed lens converter. So you have to adjust your exposure time and aperture so that the subject is not underexposed.
- Lens errors are also amplified by the teleconverter and can worsen the image.
