Office 2010: Deactivate Activation Assistant - Here's how
So that you don't have to enter the registration key again and again in the activation assistant under Office 2010, simply deactivate it. We'll show you how it's done.
Step 1: Find the Office 2010 Activation Assistant
The reason for the annoying query is a script that is always restarted. To deactivate the query, you have to change a value within the script.
- Press the "Windows" + "E" keys on your keyboard at the same time so that the "Computer" opens in Explorer. Now you have to navigate to the responsible file.
- Open the hard drive on which Office is installed. This is usually the "C:" hard drive.
- Now you have to choose between the "Programs" and "Programs (x86)" folders. Depending on the installation, the file is in a different folder. If you do not get any further with the following steps, switch from this step to the other program folder.
- Open the "Common Files" folder.
- Open the "Microsoft Shared" folder.
- Below is a folder called "Office12". Open it.
- Open the "Office Setup Controller" folder.
- Once you have reached here, you will find the last folder with the name "Proof.de" below. It should now have arrived in a path similar to "C: \ Program Files \ Common Files \ microsoft shared \ OFFICE12 \ Office Setup Controller \ Proof.de".
- Here you will find a single file called "Proof". We will open and edit these in the next paragraph.
Step 2: Deactivate Office 2010 Activation Assistant
- Click on the "Proof" file on the right so that the context menu opens.
- Move the mouse over the "Open with" option and select the "Editor" there.
- In the third last line you will find the entry "" in the script. Simply delete the word "Always" and insert "Never".
- The entry should then look like this "".
- Then press "File", "Save file as" and "Save" at the top. You will be asked whether you want to replace the file, confirm this query with "Yes".
- If saving is not possible, save the file on the desktop. Then delete the original file and paste the script from the desktop back into the Office folder.
- The activation wizard should no longer appear after a restart at the latest.
Alternatively, you can enter the Office 2010 product key after each update. This practical tip shows you how to read out the key.
