Office 2010 or 2013 - that's new
Microsoft Office is the standard among office applications. In this practical tip, you can read whether you should prefer Office 2013 or the 2010 version. In the following we have summarized the most important innovations between the versions for you.
Office 2013 or 2010 - general differences
There are some general differences between the Office versions, which may lead to a purchase decision.
- One of the most serious innovations is probably the new subscription model. You can now rent Office 2013 for a monthly fee. If you only need the programs for a short time, you can get away cheaper than buying the unlimited license.
- Another innovation is the optimization of the programs for touch screens. This makes Office easy to use even on devices with a touchscreen. Those who prefer to use the mouse and keyboard can switch to a layout especially for these input devices.
- You can now also use the program package from the cloud. This means that you can also work on a computer on which the software is not installed by accessing your documents via the Internet.
Office 2013 or 2010 - this is new in the individual programs
Of course, the individual programs have also developed somewhat.
- Outlook: The former mail program can now do much more. In addition to the well-known calendar functions, social networks are now also integrated into the software. So you can import contacts from Facebook and Twitter and see new status reports directly in the program.
- Word: The text editing program has also been revised. In Word 2013 you can embed YouTube videos in your documents and play them directly. In addition, ODT and PDF files can now be converted more easily.
- Excel: The spreadsheet program now recognizes your entries better. If you split texts from one column (e.g. names) into two others (e.g. in first and last names), Excel recognizes this and completes the entry. The program also suggests the best chart type for data records.
- PowerPoint: In Office 2013, you can finally display your notes about the slides on your screen during the presentation, while the viewers only see the slides.
