Olive oil for hair: overview of application and effects
From the inside, olive oil has a positive effect on the health of the body. Applied externally, your hair will benefit from the rich oil. We will show you how this affects your hair and how you apply it.
How olive oil works on the hair
Olive oil has many positive properties, from which your hair also benefits.
- Moisture: If you suffer from dry and brittle hair, olive oil helps to give it suppleness and shine. The oil not only moisturizes, but also wraps itself around each individual hair like a film. It will not dry out as easily in the future.
- Protection: The film that wraps around the hair not only protects against drying out, but also against harmful environmental influences. In addition, olive oil also acts as heat protection, for example when blow-drying or in strong sunlight.
- Split ends: broken tips cannot be repaired, contrary to popular belief. Once the hair is brittle, only scissors help. However, olive oil can prevent split ends. Again, the protective film comes into play.
- Itchy scalp: Dry scalp is usually responsible for the itching. Not only the hair, but also the scalp benefits from the moisture and nutrients of the oil.
- Decolorization: If you have dyed your hair yourself and the result does not meet your expectations, you can at least limit the damage with olive oil. The oil does not remove all of the color, but it can lighten the shade by a few shades if you leave it on overnight.
Easy application and treatment for hair care
So that olive oil can develop its full effectiveness for the hair, you should only use hair care products without silicones.
- Which oil: To give your hair all the healthy ingredients, you should pay attention to the quality of the oil. In another article we explain in detail what is important when buying native oils.
- Easy to use: Put some olive oil in a small bowl. Wash your hair first and then massage the oil into towel-dried hair from the scalp to the tips. This is easier with long hair if you divide your hair into two parts. Let the oil soak in under a towel for about an hour and then wash it off thoroughly with a mild shampoo.
- Hair treatment with olive oil: Mix a teaspoon of olive oil with an egg yolk and a teaspoon of honey. Massage this mixture into the towel-dried hair after washing and let the treatment work for an hour. Wrapping a warm towel around your head during this time will increase the effect of the treatment. Then you have to wash the cure carefully with a mild shampoo.
