OnePlus brings Dash Charge - a particularly fast charging technology. This practical tip shows how fast Dash Charge is and which models are supported.
OnePlus Dash Charge: that's what the new technology can do
Dash Charge is based on Oppo's VOOC technology.
- "VOOC" stands for "Voltage Loop Multi-step Constant-Current Charging". The technology delivers a constant 4A at 5V, i.e. exactly 20W - the key for fast charging.
- OnePlus developed this standard further by installing a heat dissipation inside the charger. This does not get into the smartphone battery. This keeps your device and the battery pleasantly cool while charging.
- At the same time, this also ensures that Dash Charge only works with the official OnePlus accessories: a USB-C cable and a suitable charger.
- Curiously, the OnePlus smartphones do not support a Quick Charge from their house, although they use Snapdragon processors.
OnePlus Dash Charge - the models are included
Dash Charge saw the smartphone world together with the OnePlus 3 last summer.
- OnePlus advertised the feature with the slogan "A day's power in half an hour". This alludes to the fact that the OnePlus 3 could be charged to 65% within 30 minutes using the Dash Charge.
- The successor, the OnePlus 3T, could not quite keep up, also because of a larger battery. A full charge takes about 1:45 hours.
- The 2017 flagship OnePlus 5 also supports Dash Charge. The 3, 300 mAh battery is the same size as the OnePlus 3T. The charging time is therefore roughly identical. After 30 minutes, the battery charge is 58%.
OnePlus Dash Charge - the speed
The OnePlus 5 charges the battery to 58% within 30 minutes using a dash charge.
- For marketing purposes, OnePlus published a quick charge comparison with the Samsung Galaxy S8, which also uses Adaptive Fast Charging and the Google Pixel XL, immediately after the release of the OnePlus 5.
- Although the battery of the Galaxy S8 is slightly smaller at 3, 000 mAh, the OnePlus 5 with Dash Charge was charged faster.
- After thirty minutes it was 58% for the OnePlus 5 compared to 39% for the Galaxy S8.
- While the OnePlus 5 reached over 90% battery after an hour, the Galaxy S8 did not even reach 50%, the Pixel XL reached around 55%.
- In this respect, Dash Charge is one of the fastest charging technologies that the smartphone market has to offer.
