If everything in your OpenOffice Writer program is underlined in red, you have probably not set the language of your spell check correctly. In this tip, read what you should do about it and what you should do if the spell checker is set correctly.
Everything underlined in red: Wrong spell check in OpenOffice
Use the status bar (under the content of the document) to specify the language for the spell checker for your document. If you are writing in German, you must have selected "German (Germany)". If this is not the case, change the setting as follows. If the correct language is selected, read on in the second paragraph.
- Click the language that appears in the status bar.
- Click on "More ...".
- In the "Characters" window under the "Font" tab, select your preferred language from the "Language" drop-down menu.
- Confirm with "OK". Then only a few (or ideally no) words should be underlined in red - due to typing or spelling mistakes.
OpenOffice: Language is set correctly - what then?
If your language is set correctly and everything remains underlined in red, read on here.
- To fix the problem, you need to rename a folder.
- The folder is located in "AppData" and there in a subfolder.
- A sample file path for this folder might look like this: "C: \ Users \ [username] \ AppData \ Roaming \ OpenOffice \ 4 \ user \ uno_packages"
- However, the following location is also possible: "C: \ Documents and Settings \ [user name] \ AppData \ Roaming \ OpenOffice \ 4 \ user \ uno_packages"
- Note that the "4" in these sample paths stands for the Open Office version.
- Change the name of the "uno_packages" folder. Which designation you use for it is irrelevant.
- After restarting OpenOffice the software creates a new uno_packages folder and your problem should be solved.
