OpenOffice Calc: Show formulas for each cell
In "OpenOffice Calc" you only see the result of the formulas by default. However, Calc can also show you the corresponding equation. We explain how this works in this practical tip.
Switch to the formula view in OpenOffice Calc
You cannot switch between result and formula view via a menu entry. You have to create a key combination for this.
- In OpenOffice Calc click on the tab "Extras".
- Then select "Customize ...".
- In the "Customize window" go to the "Keyboard" tab.
- Now select a combination under "Key combination" that is not yet occupied (eg [Shift] + [F3]).
- Now select "View" under "Area".
- Under "Function" look for the entry "Show formula" and mark it.
- Save the process with the "Change" and "OK" buttons.
- To display the formulas of the cells, press the key combination you have set. Press the combo again to switch back to the results view.
OpenOffice 4.1.0 was used for this practical tip. We will show you in another practical tip how you can calculate the day of the week from the date in OpenOffice Calc.
