OpenOffice: create macro
Macros allow you to automatically perform routine tasks in OpenOffice. In this guide, we will show you how to create a macro.
OpenOffice: create macro
Note: To run the macro you have created, you need the current version of the Java Runtime Environment.
- At the top of the menu bar in OpenOffice, click on "Tools" and under the "Macros" category select the "Record Macro" option.
- Now run the routine you want to save as a macro. For example, you can create a certain type of table that you will need over and over again.
- Once you have completed the process, click on the "Stop recording" button.
- You can now save your macro here. If you want to create several macros, we advise you to create a new library. You can read how this works in the next paragraph.
- To run the macro in the future, click "Tools" in the menu bar again and select the "Run Macro" option under the "Macros" category.
Open Office: program the macro yourself
- To program a macro yourself, click on "Tools" in the menu bar at the top and select the "OpenOffice.org Basic" option under the "Macros" and "Manage Macros" categories.
- Select the "My Macros" item on the left and then click the "Manage" button on the right.
- Switch to the "Libraries" tab above and click the "New" button here.
- Give the new library a name such as "My Macros" and click "OK".
- Switch back to the "Modules" tab and select the library you just created.
- Click on the "New" button and enter a name for your new module. Then close both windows.
- Select the newly created library and the module it contains in the overview and click on the "Edit" button.
- You can then program the macro yourself. You can find help on getting started with the Basic programming language on this OpenOffice website.
