OpenVPN Logs: Here you will find the log files
If something goes wrong with your connection to OpenVPN, you have to look at the log files. In this practical tip, we will show you where you can find this file under Windows and Linux.
OpenVPN Logs: Here you will find the log files
In order to access the log files, you do not necessarily have to open a certain path with Explorer:
- With OpenVPN, you can open the log files with just two to three clicks. To do this, click on the arrow pointing up in the task bar and then right-click on the OpenVPN symbol (see screenshot).
- You can open the log file of the current connection directly using the "View Log" button. Alternatively, you can find the recordings for all connections manually under the path: "C: \ Program Files \ OpenVPN \ log".
- In the standard configuration of OpenVPN in Linux distributions you will find the output of OpenVPN in the system log. Depending on the Linux derivative, this is located in "/ var / log / messages" or "/ var / log / syslog", for example. Search this system log for keywords like "VPN" to get the lines you want.
- The latter works, for example, simply with the "grep" command in the terminal: "grep VPN / var / log / syslog".
