Opera: Remove Google from the search bar - Here's how
In the search bar, Opera searches the Internet by default with Google. You can also remove the search engine and use another service. We'll show you how to do it.
Remove Google from Opera search bar
When you enter a word in the address / search bar in Opera, the browser automatically uses Google as a service. You can influence this behavior directly with a letter before your input: For example, write a "b" before your input, uses Opera Bing instead of Google.
- If you don't want to use the search engine in your search bar, you can completely remove Google in the settings.
- Open the Opera settings menu by pressing the key combination [Ctrl] + [F12].
- Under the "Search" tab, select "Google" and then click on "Delete" (see screenshot).
- Opera then uses the next entry in the list if you don't use an abbreviation.
We will show you how to set up Opera even further according to your wishes. The next practical tip explains how to remove plugins in Opera.
