Opera does not play videos - it can be because of that
If Opera no longer plays videos and a black box appears instead, this is mostly due to outdated or missing plugins. This practical tip shows you what you can do to make Opera display videos again.
Opera does not play videos: update plugins and extensions
If your plugins are out of date or your browser is out of date, the video function is usually deactivated.
- Go to "Menu"> "About Opera" to check if the browser is up to date.
- You can find the current version of Opera in the CHIP download area.
- If the video still does not work, check whether the necessary plugins are activated by Opera.
- In addition, if there are missing or outdated plugins, you will usually find a note in the video box. Follow the given link there, for example to update the Flash Player.
- Plugins and extensions that support the same video type can sometimes block each other. Therefore, use "Menu"> "Extensions"> "Manage extensions" to deactivate addons that perform the same function.
- First try to clear the cache in Opera.
- Cookies must also be allowed on some websites so that the videos are displayed correctly.
- Deactivate your ad blocker and reload the website to test if this is the reason for the video error.
