In the social networks, some contemporaries live out somewhat strange trends, such as orbiting at the moment. Most of them are probably not really clear what they are trying to achieve. But what exactly does orbiting mean? We'll explain that to you here.
Orbiting: first dating, then sudden withdrawal
Orbiting seems to be the current trend in social networks. At the moment, however, it is still puzzled what makes someone do it. What is hidden behind orbiting can be described in a few words.
- Suppose you met someone and understood each other perfectly. Everything seems to be right and happiness is perfect. In a nutshell: they hovered on pink clouds. But suddenly your partner stops answering and you can no longer reach him either. It suddenly disappears from your life. So far, everything still sounds like a classic case of ghosting.
- But ghosting was yesterday, orbiting is the order of the day. Because even though your partner is suddenly unreachable for you, he frolics in the social networks and follows you there. He or she comments, likes, or shares your posts.
- Exactly what is to be achieved with this behavior is unclear and certainly also varies individually. One explanatory approach assumes that the person concerned does not want to let go completely and thus keeps a back door open. Hence the term orbiting.
- Orbiting is a derivative of orbit. Orbit comes from the Latin and means something like orbit. In astronomy, orbit refers to the orbit of an object that draws it around a celestial body.
- In short: Your former partner is unreachable for you, but at the same time he or she is still - at least virtually - circling around you. The only way to end the silly game is to simply block him or her and turn to ghosting.
