Share folders with the network - how it works

If you want to share folders in your own network with other computers, you have to share them first. We'll show you how it works.
Share folders on your home network
The easiest way is to unlock the folder for your home network group:
- You do this by right-clicking on the desired folder and then clicking on the "Share with ..." option. There, select "Home network group (read / write)". Read here how to create a home network group.
- Now everyone within the home network group is authorized to remove, add and edit files from the folder. If you want to restrict access, select "HomeGroup (Read)" instead.
User-specific approval
If you do not want to share the folder with the entire home network or every user in a network group, you can only make it available to very specific users. To do this, proceed as described above. However, instead of sharing in the home network group, select the "Specific people ..." option.
- A separate window then opens. Here you can add certain users via the selection menu. Under the "Authorization level" field, you can specify the type of access and confirm it by clicking on "Release".
- In the following window, just click "Yes".
Password-protected sharing of folders
Depending on whether your network is private or, for example, a network in the office, you can still add security options. This is how you determine whether or not the shared users must enter your username and password when accessing your folder.
- To do this, right-click on the folder and select the "Properties" option in the folder menu. There, click on the "Release" tab.
- At the bottom is "Network and Sharing Center" (see picture). Here you can make all configurations for both private and public networks. To choose password-protected access, scroll down under the private network and set the item under "Activate password-protected sharing".
