Show folder sizes in Explorer - Here's how
By default, Windows Explorer only shows the sizes of files, but folder sizes cannot be easily displayed. We show you how to retrofit the function.
Show folder sizes in Explorer via "Folder Size"
The open source extension "Folder Size" for Windows Explorer retrofits the display of the folder size. The tool integrates into the Explorer, scans the size of the folders during operation and displays the value in a separate column.
- Install the software and open Explorer. If necessary, activate the "Details" option under the "View" tab so that the sizes are displayed.
- Right-click on the head of the "Size" column and activate the new "Size" column. You can then deactivate the old "Size" column.
- Now the folder sizes are also shown in Explorer. If the size of a folder is currently still being calculated, there is a small plus behind the displayed size.
- Note: The tool works continuously in the background to keep the size information of all folders up to date. To interrupt this activity, configure the tool in the Control Panel using the "Folder Size" icon.
