Origin: move individual games folders - so it'll work
With Origin, you cannot easily move individual game folders. The program has no function to set an individual installation path for each game. For example, if you want to move a game to a faster SSD, you can do a little Windows trick.
Move individual Origin game folder - Here's how
If you just move the folder, Origin notices this and prompts you to download the game again. To prevent this from happening, simply pretend Origin that the folder is still there. This works from Windows Vista upwards with so-called "links". You then create a folder with the same name as the folder you have moved. With the decisive difference that one folder only refers to the other. Origin does not notice this and so unconsciously accesses another directory.
- First move the game folder to the desired directory.
- Now open the Windows command line with administrator rights. Simply search for "cmd" in the Windows search, start the program with a right click and select "Run as administrator".
- Now execute the command "mklink / j source directory target directory". This would correspond to, for example, "mklink / j" D: \ Games \ Origin \ Games \ Sim City "" C: \ Games \ Sim City 5 "" (without outer quotation marks; the inner quotation marks are necessary for folder names with spaces). In this case, the game is now really on "Drive C:", but for Origin it is still on "Drive D:". Your game is now in a different directory, but is still functional.
