Set up chat room in messages
The iMessages program does not support a chat room function. You can set this up anyway. To do this, potential participants must have an account with Jabber, AIM, Google Talk or Yahoo! have. In addition, all participants must use the same account type. If this is the case, just follow the instructions below:
- Start Messages by typing "Messages" in the top right corner of Spotlight search. Choose the first hit.
- Now click on "Settings" in the Apple system bar and then on "Add account ...". Select one of the services mentioned and follow the instructions.
- After successfully setting up your account, click on "File"> "Enter chat room" in the Apple toolbar. In the next window, select your account.
- Now enter the name of the respective chat room in the "Room name" field to create a chat room or to visit an existing one. To secure the chat room you have to click on the plus symbol.
- While you are in a chat room, you can add more participants by clicking the plus symbol.
