With OS X Mavericks you can compress and decompress your files. This is useful if you run out of space on your hard drive and want to free up space. In our practical tip, you will learn how to compress files on Mac OS X Mavericks.
Compress files on OS X Mavericks
Mavericks provides you with a function for compressing files. You can use these to create zip archives and thus provide more storage space on your hard disk.
- Navigate to the desired folder or file that you want to compress.
- Then right-click on the respective file to open the context menu. You can also compress several files at the same time. This practical tip shows you how to activate a right-click on your Macbook touchpad.
- Then select "compress" in the context menu (see picture). Now a compressed file with the extension ".zip" is created on your Mac.
- If you want to decompress the file again, simply right-click on the respective file.
