OS X Mavericks: Change the background of the login screen
In order to change the background image for your login screen under OS X Mavericks, you have to do a few simple steps. You can display your own photos or your favorite background images when you start up your Mac. We explain how it works.
Own background image as login screen
At the beginning, you should note that the desired image has the same resolution as your Mac monitor. It also makes sense to back up the standard background image so that you can restore your login screen to its original state at any time.
- First create a folder for a backup of the login screen. To do this, right-click on your desk and then select "New Folder". Then open the Finder and simultaneously press Shift + CMD + G. Now enter the following folder path: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/LoginUIKit.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LoginUICore.framework/Resources/
- In this folder you will find four PNG files with these names: apple.webp, apple_s1.webp, and Copy these images into the created backup folder.
- Now open the desired photo for your login screen with "Preview". Here you select the "Export ..." item under "File" and enter "PNG" as the file format.
- Now copy the "PNG" file four times and rename the individual copies as follows: apple.webp, apple_s1.webp, and For this you have to double-click on the file name.
- Now insert the renamed copies into the folder determined under 2.. The desired background image should now appear in the login window.
