OS X Mavericks: New mails are not received
Since the update to Mavericks, it has happened that OS X cannot receive some mails. A restart of the mail app usually helps. You can find out how to receive new mails without restarting here.
Mails are not received under Mavericks - the solution
Apple has not yet found a correct solution to the problem with the incorrect behavior of the mail program. However, there is a little trick. You can use it to receive emails without restarting:
- Select "Mailbox" -> "Take all accounts offline" in the menu bar.
- Then click on "Mailbox" -> "Receive all new emails".
- The email client now receives all emails manually without restarting.
Create shortcut for manual mail reception
Since you have to check your mail manually until further notice, you should create a shortcut. Here's how it works:
- In the menu bar, click on "View" -> "Customize toolbar ...".
- Drag the button "Take all accounts offline" to your menu bar.
- If you don't have the "Receive mail" button in the menu bar, add it as well.
- To check your mail, first click on "Take all accounts offline" in the menu bar and then on "Receive mail".
Apple may fix the problem with the update to OS X 10.9.2. Tip: Also read how to activate the read receipt for mail.
