OS X Mavericks: Establish a VPN connection
Under OS X Mavericks you can establish a VPN connection with a few settings and set various VPN options. For example, you can activate automatic logging of your VPN connections. Our guide will tell you how it works.
Set up a VPN connection under OS X Mavericks
If you have received a file with VPN settings, you can open it with a double click and then go to the network settings. All the necessary information is automatically imported there. If this does not work, you have to make the settings manually:
- Go to Apple> System Preferences> Network.
- Then click on "Import configurations" and search for the file. Confirm this again with "Import".
If you have not received a file, you can manually set up a new VPN connection:
- To do this, first go to "Apple"> "System Settings"> "Network".
- Then select "Add"> "Port"> "VPN" from the list of network connection services.
- Name the VPN service and choose a VPN type. This depends on which network you want to connect to.
- Now you have to enter the server address and the account name.
- Then select "Authentication Settings" and enter your user data for the VPN network. You will receive this from the administrator. Then click "OK" and "Connect".
Adjust the VPN settings under Mavericks - in 5 steps
To activate useful tools for your VPN connection, you only need to determine the corresponding setting in the system settings:
- Open the "System Settings" in your Dock and select the menu item "Network".
- You will now see your network connections on the left. Select your network service here.
- Then go to "More Options ..." on the right side (see picture).
- In the next window you will now see some VPN options. Here you can determine, for example, whether the VPN connection should be terminated when changing users.
- The VPN connection can also be terminated when the user is completely logged out. You can also have a detailed VPN protocol created.
