OS X Mavericks: Change and add Mac warning tones
You can easily change warning tones in OS X Mavericks. If you don't like any of the warning tones on your MAC, you can add your own. We show you how it works.
Change warning tones on OS X Mavericks
- Start the system settings.
- Select the "Sound" submenu in the second row on the far right.
- Select "Sound Effects".
- Here you can set the warning tone that you like.
Add new warning tones on OS X Mavericks
- Make sure that the sound files you want to add to the warning tones meet the requirements. They must be in AIFF format and the file name must not contain any spaces.
- Move the sound files to the Sounds folder in your Mac's library.
- Now you can also select the newly added tones as described in the previous paragraph.
Convert audio files to AIFF format
To get your audio files into AIFF format, you need a converter. For example, you can use the Quicktime player with the Pro upgrade. The Quicktime Pro upgrade costs a one-time fee of $ 29.99.
- Open the Quicktime player.
- Open the filing menu. Choose "Import".
- You can select the desired file in the window. Click on "Open".
- Select the File menu again and this time click on "Export".
- In the window you can now determine a storage location for the AIFF file.
- Select "AIFF" for the sound.
- Check the file extension in the "Save as" field. The file should end in .aiff.
- finally click on "save". The respective file is now available in the location you selected.
