OS X QuickLook: The best plugins
You can improve the practical QuickLook function with additional plugins. Your Finder cannot automatically display every file in QuickLook, but there are extensions for almost all file types on the Internet.
Install the QuickLook plugin
You need to install your Finder extensions first. Unfortunately, very few plugins have an installation program. So you have to activate the generator file yourself. You can download the generator files from websites such as Quicklookplugins.com.
- Navigate to the QuickLook generator file in the Downloads folder and copy it.
- Click on the "Go to" tab in the Finder and select the "Go to folder ..." button.
- Enter the location "/ Library / QuickLook" in the opened text window and open it.
- Paste your QuickLook generator file into this folder.
- You now have to restart Finder to activate the new QuickLook plugin. To do this, log out of your user and then log in again.
The best extensions for QuickLook
- BetterZip: Use this plugin so that QuickLook shows you the files contained in archives. BetterZip shows you all files and subfolders in zip, tar, iso, 7-zip, MacBinary, and rpm archives.
- SuspiciousPackage: Look at installation packages before installing. So you can see what the program wants to install.
- Perian: This app is not a QuickLook plugin, but if you install Perian, you can play all video files in QuickLook that the Mac does not normally support.
