OS X Yosemite: Create bootable USB stick
You can also create a bootable USB stick for OS X Yosemite. In this guide, we show you exactly how to proceed.
Create bootable USB stick in OS X Yosemite
With the MacOS X Yosemite Launcher from the Appstore and the DiskMaker X program, you can easily create a bootable USB stick:
- Open the Mac app store and navigate to the download of OS X Yosemite.
- Click the "Download" button. If you have already installed Yosemite, an error message will appear. However, you can confirm the dialog so that the download starts anyway.
- When the download is complete, the installation program opens. However, you can end this immediately.
- Now install the free "DiskMaker X" tool on your Mac and then start it.
- Select Yosemite as the system on which to install the tool.
- DiskMaker X will now automatically search for the installation file. This is normally in the program folder. Confirm the folder by clicking "OK".
- Now make sure that your USB stick or SD card is inserted in your Mac and is also recognized. You need at least 8GB storage space. Then select the respective medium. Attention: All data on the USB stick will be deleted.
- DiskMaker X now installs Yosemite on the USB stick. Once the process is complete, you can use the USB stick.
