OS X Yosemite: How to change the system font
In OS X Yosemite you can partially change the system font. Many users miss the old font of the previous versions. This guide will show you how to make the Yosemite font look better again.
Change system font in OS X Yosemite
The font in OS X Yosemite has already been criticized by font experts for poor readability. You modify the font in Yosemite as follows.
- Start the system settings in your dock.
- Select the "General" item here.
- At the very bottom of the window you will find the item "Use LCD font smoothing when available". Remove the check here.
- Now the LCD font smoothing is not completely removed, but minimized. Close the window to test the new font.
- You can also enter the following command in the terminal to further change the font smoothing: "defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 2" or "defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 1".
- If you want to restore the default settings, enter the following command in the terminal: "defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 3".
