Outlook: Set up 1und1 email
Checking emails from 1und1 with Outlook is pretty easy. We'll show you how to set up a 1und1 email account and check emails.
Add 1 & 1 account to Outlook
- In Outlook, click on "File" in the upper left corner of the screen.
- In the "Information" menu select "Add account"
- The email setup wizard starts by selecting the "Manually configure server settings or additional server types" option and clicking "Next" twice.
- Now enter the user, server and login information - details can be found in the next section.
Enter login data of 1 & 1
- Your name: User name to be shown as the sender
- Email address: Your address (eg )
- Server type: POP3 / IMAP. In this practical tip you will read what the differences between these two protocols are and which one is suitable for you.
- Incoming server: imap.1und1.de or pop.1und1.de
- Outgoing mail server: smtp.1und1.de
- Username: Your email address (eg )
- Make sure that the login option "through secure password authentication (SPA)" is deactivated.
Further configurations in Outlook
Under "Additional Settings" you make the following settings:
- In the "Outgoing mail server" tab, activate the option "The outgoing mail server (SMTP) requires authentication".
- Switch to the "Advanced" tab
- Select the "SSL" encryption for the incoming mail server (IMAP or POP). The server port should change to 995 for POP and 993 for IMAP. If not, enter the appropriate value.
- For the outgoing mail server (SMTP) select "Automatic" in the dropdown menu and enter the port 587.
- Then click on "OK" and end the process by clicking on "Finish".
The instructions refer to Microsoft Outlook 2010. For other versions, the process may vary slightly.
