Outlook for Mac - Here's how
Microsoft's Outlook is also available for Mac. With it you can replace not only Apple Mail, but also the native programs for contacts, calendars and notes. We'll show you how to set up Outlook for Mac properly. You can find illustrated instructions in our gallery.
Set up email account in Outlook for Mac
Outlook for Mac is available in the "Microsoft Office Mac Home and Business 2011" package or as an Office 365 version with an annual subscription.
- Install the Office package you want on your Mac and open Outlook.
- Click "Outlook"> "Settings"> "Accounts" in the top menu bar.
- Under "Add account" choose between "Exchange account" and "Email account". For GMX, GMail, Web.de accounts etc., the second option is the right choice.
- Enter your full e-mail address and your password and leave the checkmark at "Automatic configuration". Outlook automatically gets all the necessary information such as server addresses and ports. However, you can still customize the name of the mailbox. If Outlook reports an error or the dot next to the account name on the left remains yellow, contact your mail provider to find out the correct settings. You can usually find them in the respective FAQ.
- Close the accounts window to finish the setup. Outlook then retrieves all existing emails (and folders) from the server. Depending on the provider, this may take some time.
Use Outlook for Mac
- At the bottom left you can see various tabs for "Email", "Calendar", "Contacts", "Tasks" and "Notes". You can use this to switch between the various Outlook functions. Via "File"> "Import ..." you insert a calendar or contacts exported from Outlook from a text file in Outlook.
- You can access your e-mail folders as well as incoming and outgoing mail via the left bar.
- To write an email, click on the "Email" icon at the top left. Calendar entries, new contacts, tasks etc. can be added via "New".
- Mails can be removed using the "Backspace" button or the "Delete" button. To move an email, simply drag it to the desired folder.
- You can also use the icons of the same name to "forward" e-mails, "reply" to them, or "reply to all" if there are several senders.
- You set up a signature via "Outlook"> "Settings"> "Signatures".
- Mail can be checked manually using the symbol with the two envelopes and the green arrows at the top left.
