- Select the Task Manager here and look for the "outlook.exe" or "Microsoft Outlook" process.
- Select the entry with the mouse and click on it with the right mouse button.
- Outlook is closed via the "End task" option. You may have to confirm the command again.
Outlook cannot be closed: this can help
If Outlook does not want to close frequently, this can have a variety of causes. Here are the most common causes.
- Retrieve mails: If Outlook takes a long time to establish a connection with the mail server, this can lead to delays when closing the software. Check your mails using the "Send / Receive" button and only then close Outlook. This can solve your problem.
- Add-ins: Click on the "File" tab above and select the "Options" there. Under the "Add-Ins" item, click on the "Go To" button below. Deactivate all add-ins here and close Outlook again. You can then reactivate the add-ins one after the other to find the culprit.
- Registry: Open the registry and navigate on the left to the path HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Office \ 15.0 \ Outlook \ PST. Change the value of the "PSTNullFreeOnClose" key from 0 to 1.
- Safe mode: If none of this helps, try starting Outlook in the safe mouse. Only the most necessary functions are loaded. Press the "Windows" and "R" keys simultaneously so that the "Execute" command opens. Enter "outlook.exe / safe" here and confirm with "OK".
