Outlook: Activate and deactivate sound effects
The sound effects in Outlook can be both useful and annoying. We'll show you how to turn it on or off.
Outlook 2013 and 2010: turn sound effects on and off
You can configure both the tone when a new message is received and the reminder sound.
- Open Outlook, click the "File" tab in the upper left corner and select the "Options" in the lower left corner.
- Sound for new message: Click on "E-Mail" in the menu on the left and remove or set the "Play sound" option under "Message inbox".
- Reminder sound: Click on "Advanced" in the menu on the left. Under the "Reminders" category, you can now tick or uncheck the "Play reminder sound" option.
Enable and disable sound effects in Office 2007
- Open Outlook and click on "Tools" in the menu bar at the top and select the "Options".
- Sound for new message: Click on the "E-Mail options" under the "Settings" tab and select the "Advanced E-Mail options" there. Under the category "When new items arrive in the inbox" check the box "Play sound".
- Reminder sound: Under the "Other" tab, click on the "Advanced options". Here you will find the item "Show reminder window" under the "Reminder options". If this is activated, you can activate or deactivate the "Play reminder sounds" option.
